Storylines to Watch
- How the Browns defense limits QB Jayden Daniels and Commanders offense — The Browns defense is up against a quarterback who has excelled in the first four weeks of the season in rookie Jayden Daniels. He has a completion percentage of 82 percent, as he's completed 87 passes for 897 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He's led the Commanders on 23 scoring drives — including 16 consecutive scoring drives excluding kneel downs— with only 19 incomplete passes and four punts. The Commanders have converted on 23 of 43 third-down attempts, or 53.5 percent, to lead the NFL, as well as all six of their fourth-down attempts for a three-way tie to lead the league.
- How the Browns offensive line matches up against the Commanders defensive front — While the Browns continue to work through injuries to their offensive line, they will paired up across a stout defensive front from the Commanders. With DT Daron Payne and DT Jonathan Allen on the inside and DE Clelin Ferrell and DE Dorance Armstrong on the edges, as well as LB Bobby Wagner in the middle at linebacker, head coach Kevin Stefanski said it's a physical front that plays aggressively — which the Browns offensive line will have to prepare to face in order to protect QB Deshaun Watson from pressure.
- How the Browns run defense bounces back — The Browns struggled to stop the run in Week 4 against the Raiders, and will face another team who has found success in the run game through the first portion of the season. Not only does Daniels present a run threat, as he has a total of 218 rushing yards this season, but the Commanders rushing attack ranks in the top five teams in the league in runs of 10 yards or more, rushing touchdowns and rushing yards per play. The Browns will have to tighten their run defense after giving up 152 net rushing yards to the Raiders.
