Storylines to Watch
- Dorian Thompson-Robinson's status — QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson will make his second start at quarterback this season against the Dolphins — if he is healthy. Thompson-Robinson sustained a calf injury on the first offensive drive in Week 16, but played the remainder of the game. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said they will have more information as the week progresses on his status. In his first start of the season in Week 16, Thompson-Robinson completed 20 of 34 passing attempts for 157 yards and two interceptions, and was sacked five times for a loss of 32 yards.
- How the Browns limit the Dolphins receiving corps — The Dolphins are averaging 222.1 passing yards per game this season, and Miami has a talented group of pass catchers — led by WR Tyreek Hill, TE Jonnu Smith and WR Jaylen Waddle. Hill leads the team with 111 targets and 834 receiving yards and six touchdowns, and is closely followed by Smith with 802 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Smith also has the most receptions this season at 76. But QB Tua Tagovailoa has multiple threats in the pass game that he spreads the ball around to, which will require the Browns secondary to be solid in their one-on-one matchups and in coverage.
- How the Browns balance the run and pass game — The Dolphins defense allows an average of 102.1 rushing yards per game, which ranks sixth-best in the league. They also only allow an average of 210.9 passing yards, ranked 10th best in the league. Establishing a balance of both the run and the pass game will make the Dolphins defense have to account for the pass catchers and their running backs. It also can open up opportunities for explosive plays. Cleveland is averaging 211.3 passing yards per game and 95.9 rushing yards per game, but have had a handful of explosive plays in the recent weeks. Those explosive plays have helped create opportunities to score, which the Browns must take advantage of as they average 16.3 total points per game this season.
