Storylines to Watch
- How the Browns defense pressures QB Patrick Mahomes — The Browns defense will face another dynamic quarterback when QB Patrick Mahomes comes to Cleveland. This season, Mahomes has completed 316 of 364 passing attempts for 3,189 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He's also thrown 11 interceptions and been sacked 35 times. Mahomes also uses his legs to extend plays and run the ball, as he's totaled 50 carries for 248 rushing yards and one touchdown this season. The Browns pass rush will need to apply ample pressure to Mahomes, while the run defense will have to be prepared for him to keep the ball and run.
- How the Browns utilize the pass game — The Chiefs defense is limiting teams to average of 88.3 net rushing yards per game, which ranks third in the NFL. The Browns may be limited in their opportunities to run the ball, which will require the need to turn to the pass game. The Chiefs allow an average of 221.8 net passing yards per game, which ranks 20th in the league. If QB Jameis Winston can connect with his pass catchers and move the ball downfield through the air, the Browns could create opportunities to find the red zone. The Chiefs are 12th in the league in red zone touchdown percentage at 52.4 percent.
- How the Browns defend TE Travis Kelce — TE Travis Kelce is Mahomes' top target in the passing game, as Kelce has 80 receptions on 107 targets for 682 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season. Kelce is averaging 52.5 receiving yards per game in 2024, and his longest catch this season was for 38 yards. The Browns secondary will have to match up against Kelce and be prepared for one-on-one and man coverage situations with him, especially with Kelce totaling 273 receiving yards after catch this season.
