Storylines to Watch
- QB Deshaun Watson to not play in second preseason game — Watson will once again not play in second preseason game against the Vikings, after he did not play in the Browns' first preseason game against the Packers. However, Watson will get his work in against the Vikings in joint practices, and the game reps will be left for QB Jameis Winston, QB Tyler Huntley and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
- Quarterback situation in Minnesota — The Vikings announced on Wednesday that QB J.J. McCarthy would miss the entirety of the 2024 season after having surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee. QB Sam Darnold took reps during the first day of joint practices, and Saturday's game will leave opportunities for Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall as head coach Kevin O'Connell doesn't believe Darnold will play in the preseason game.
- Backups to take majority of game reps — The Browns are hosting the Vikings for two joint practices ahead of the second preseason game, and in those joint practices the starters will take most of the reps. The joint practices allow for their starters to face an opposing starting unit in a controlled setting. That leaves the door open for backups and younger players to take game reps in the preseason game to continue auditioning for a roster spot.
