The Cleveland Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys at Huntington Bank Field for the season opener on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 at 4:25 p.m. EST.

Matchup

  • The Browns lead the all-time series against the Cowboys 16-13, including a 9-5 record at home.
  • The Browns and the Cowboys last faced off in 2020, with Cleveland claiming a 49-38 victory at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
  • The last time the Browns beat the Cowboys in Cleveland was in 1988, when they beat Dallas 24-21 on Dec. 4, 1988.

Storylines to Watch

  • QB Deshaun Watson's first game since shoulder surgery — Watson is set to take the field for the first time since he underwent shoulder surgery that ended his 2023 season. He did not appear in any of the Browns' three preseason games. Watson has continued to progress through the offseason and took milestone steps that allowed him to be ready for the regular season.
  • How QB Dak Prescott leads the Cowboys offense — The Browns defense has their hands full in the first game of the season against an offense led by Prescott. Head coach Kevin Stefanski described Prescott is "in total control of what they do" for their offense and in their schemes. Prescott is an elite decision maker, an accurate passer, can extend plays and can get the ball out of his hands. He also has potential offensive threats across the board.
  • DE Myles Garrett against rookie LT Tyler Guyton — The Cowboys have a rookie tackle in Guyton who will face off against reigning Defensive Player of the Year in Garrett. The Cowboys selected Guyton with the 29th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, who did not allow a sack in 355 snaps as a pass blocker during the 2023 season at Oklahoma. He has a strong ability to protect the quarterback, but will get a tough first matchup in Garrett, who has a total of 88.5 sacks since 2017, and has reached double-digit sacks in the last six seasons — the only NFL player to record at least 10 sacks in each of the past six seasons (2018-23).
