WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va – The Browns hit the ground running on the second day of practice with a full workout, putting in the first 11-on-11 work of training camp.
Here are the top observations and notes from the second at The Greenbrier.
First 11-on-11 period of training camp
Before the Browns kicked off the 11-on-11 portion of practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski gathered the team at the middle of the field. They broke the huddle and took the field lined up across from one another to practice in 11-on-11.
Watson started at quarterback, either under center or in shotgun. Over a series of plays, Watson connected with multiple of his pass catchers. He also handed the ball off to RB D'Onta Foreman who found a whole in the defense for a solid run. He found TE Jordan Akins open on the sideline for a pass, connected with WR Cedric Tillman and threw an intermediate pass to WR Amari Cooper down the sideline. He also connected with WR Elijah Moore in the open field. Both QB Jameis Winston and QB Tyler Huntley took reps during the 11-on-11 period.
The defense also had some solid moments throughout the 11-on-11 period, with a pass intended for TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden broken up, as well as another play in which CB Kahlef Hailassie breaking up a pass intended for WR Jalen Camp. DB John Kelly Jr. intercepted a pass thrown by Huntley and ran the ball back.
Watson, who threw in 11-on-11 for the first time since he threw on the final day of minicamp in June, said he is right on track with his shoulder recovery.
"The key in training camp is just focusing on one play at a time," Watson said. "And just trying to execute that play versus whatever the defense is scheming up for us and just taking completions, getting positive yards and whatever mistakes or situations that pop up that you didn't see on the field. You watch the tape, and you correct it the next day. So, we felt good of just stacking those days and that's all we can do right now."

Mike Vrabel working with the tight ends
During the individual portion of practice, Vrabel worked individually with the tight ends as they worked on coming off of blocks. They paired up with another tight end to replicate getting off the line of scrimmage and past a defender to get into their route. They also ran through a drill focused on pass catching.
A focus on kickoff coverage
The Browns wrapped up practice by working through kickoff coverage, using the JUGS machine to rep the kickoff.
As players lined up in coverage, there was a group of players in the backfield repping their return. Players who rotated through taking those reps were WR Jaelon Darden, WR James Proche II, RB Pierre Strong Jr., RB D'Onta Foreman, CB Dyshawn Gales, WR Jamari Thrash and WR Ahmarean Brown.
Other notes
- The offensive line spent their individual period working on blocking drills. They lined up with another offensive line to simulate going up against the defensive line, and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson simulated the ball being snapped and players blocking.
- Safeties went through a drill with safeties coach Ephraim Banda, working on anticipating the movement of a receiver in coverage.
- As the quarterbacks wrapped up their individual position period, they ran a drill in which they threw three consecutive passes – one short, intermediate and long pass – during their rep.
