After a weather delay that flipped the schedule, the Browns took to the practice field for their fifth day of work

TC Observations 7.30

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va – As the rain poured and thunder echoed through the Allegheny Mountains throughout the morning, the Browns adjusted their practice schedule on the fifth day of training camp.

They switched their planned walkthrough to the morning and practiced in the afternoon. As the clouds cleared and the sun broke through, the Browns took the field for a sunny practice and were back in the shells for the fifth day of training camp.

Here are the main observations and notes from Day 5.

Deshaun Watson throws

QB Deshaun Watson continued his participation in drills and threw throughout practice. He started by working individually with the coaching staff on snaps before the quarterbacks began throwing to their pass catchers.

During the position drills, Watson connected with TE David Njoku, TE Jordan Akins, WR Amari Cooper, WR Cedric Tillman and WR Elijah Moore.

7-on-7 drills

The Browns spent a period of practice in 7-on-7 drills, in which Watson connected with Njoku on a pass and Moore on another down the sideline. He also found RB Jerome Ford, who was tightly covered by the defense.

The defense found their moments as well, as CB Martin Emerson Jr. broke up a pass, and S Juan Thornhill tightly contested a pass intended for WR Michael Woods II and almost came down with the interception. CB Justin Hardee Sr. also covered the ball well on a deep pass intended for WR Jaelon Darden.

11-on-11 period

The Browns ran their second 11-on-11 period in training camp. Watson started his reps with a handoff to RB D'Onta Foreman. Watson then connected with Cooper who was open in the middle of the field. Watson found Moore for the completion, but Ward was in solid coverage to stop him to end the play.

On another rep, Watson found WR David Bell for the completion, and Bell found a spot to slip through the defense.

QB Jameis Winston also took reps during 11-on-11. He threw a deep pass downfield to WR Matt Landers who caught the ball in the end zone. Winston also handed the ball off to RB Jerome Ford on a rep, and Ford found his way through the defense to run down the sideline.

7-on-7 red zone

One the last portions of practice was their 7-on-7 red zone work. Watson also threw during the period, connecting with Tillman and Moore in the end zone on two different reps, and found Njoku for a completion, but was just short of the end zone.

Yet, the defense also had their moments in the red zone drills. Ward broke up a pass and CB Kahlef Hailassie broke up another.
