Training Camp observations from the 6th day at The Greenbrier

The Browns were back in pads for the second time of training camp

TC Observations Day 6

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va – As QB Deshaun Watson received the snap on one of the final plays in 11-on-11, he assessed his offense and searched for an open receiver. As he threw the ball, S Grant Delpit leapt into the air and caught the ball for the interception. The interception sent the defense into a frenzy as they celebrated the takeaway.

The Browns were back in pads for the second time of training camp that led to a spirited practice at The Greenbrier. Here are the main observations and notes from the sixth day of training camp.

Receiver and defensive back 1-on-1 drill

The Browns pass catchers and defensive backs worked in a 1-on-1 setting paired up in the red zone. As the receivers looked to catch a pass from QB Deshaun Watson, they were tightly defended by a defensive back.

Over the series of reps in the drill, the offense came out on top, catching passes in the end zone for a "touchdown." As one of the final reps of the drill, TE David Njoku caught a pass and the defensive backs – as well as coaches – dropped to the ground and did pushups.

Jerry Jeudy participates in individual drills

WR Jerry Jeudy participated in the individual drills of practice. He was in pads as he went through drills with the receivers, as well as caught passes from Watson in an early on air drill. Jeudy did not participate in the 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 team drills.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said before practice Jeudy is close to returning to full participation in practice.

11-on-11 period

The Browns went through a lively 11-on-11 period, in which Watson connected with a number of his pass catchers, who then faced a defense ready to assert their dominance. Watson found WR Elijah Moore for a completion in his early reps, as well as fullback Giovanni Ricci and WR David Bell.

Watson showcased his ability to adjust as on one rep. As he assessed the field, he couldn't find an open receiver, so he held onto the ball and found space in the defense to run, but finally found Njoku open in the middle of the field and threw a short pass to Njoku.

During the drill, Watson also displayed the strength of his arm as he threw a mix of intermediate passes and deep balls. He targeted WR Cedric Tillman downfield for two separate deep passes throughout the drill.

Yet, the defense also had strong moments. As Watson threw a pass intended for WR
Amari Cooper, S Juan Thornhill jumped and batted down the pass for the pass breakup. The defense also bottled-up RB Jerome Ford following a handoff, keeping him from breaking through for a long run.

7-on-7 period

During the 7-on-7 period, Watson threw a pass intended for WR Michael Woods II down the field, but CB Cameron Mitchell provided solid coverage on the play and disrupted Woods from catching the ball.

But Watson found other opportunities to connect with his pass catchers. He found RB Aidan Robbins, Moore and Tillman each for a completion, while the secondary put up strong coverage in their defensive assignments.

D'Onta Foreman injured

RB D'Onta Foreman endured an injury in Thursday's practice during a punting drill. The Browns announced that he sustained a direct blow to the head that resulted in neck pain. The Browns athletic training staff deployed their standard emergency action procedures to immobilize Foreman. He was taken to an ambulance and is being transported via helicopter to a Medical Center in Roanoke, VA to undergo further medical evaluation. Foreman had movement in all his extremities.

When the Browns wrapped up practice for the day, they gathered at the middle of the field, and all took a knee as they were informed of Foreman's injury.

"Anytime there's an injury or anything like that, we're always hoping for the best," offensive line coach Andy Dickerson said following practice. "He's in our thoughts and prayers. Our medical staff and training staff has everything set up to take care of when any of those type of things happen. Football's a game where injuries occur, and so anytime that stuff happens, we're always hoping for the best, and it was good that they were able to communicate to us and their preparation. Like I said, he's in our thoughts and prayers."

After Foreman was taken to the hospital, the Browns announced that his X-rays and CT scans were negative and was expected to be released from the hospital later in the day.
