The Browns announced they have terminated the contract of S Juan Thornhill with a post June 1 designation.
Thornhill signed a three-year deal with the Browns as a free agent in 2023. In his two seasons in Cleveland, Thornhill started all 22 of games he played and recorded 103 tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits and four passes defensed.
"First of all, great individual," Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Berry said of Thornhill on Feb. 25 at the NFL Scouting Combine. "Thought he played well when he was on the field. But the big thing was just availability. A guy that had been pretty durable during his time in Kansas City but just had a really tough time with the calf injuries throughout his time with us. He'll go on and play well and catch on, but unfortunately just didn't work out with us."
Thornhill dealt with injuries throughout his two seasons in Cleveland. In 2023, he dealt with a calf injury that lingered throughout the season, which caused him to miss six games. Then, in 2024, he appeared in the season opener against the Cowboys and recorded nine tackles but was then placed on injured reserve with a calf injury on Sept. 11. He missed five games before he was activated on Oct. 19. He ended the 2024 season having appeared in 11 games and recording 49 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit and three passes defensed.
In his six-year career, Thornhill has appeared in 87 games with 74 starts and recorded 337 tackles, six tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, 24 passes defensed, eight interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one sack.
