The Browns are building out their depth at edge rusher, as they have agreed to terms with DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

Drafted in the first round in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers, he spent the first four years of his NFL career with Tampa. During those four seasons, Tryon-Shoyinka played as both a linebacker and outside linebacker in their 3-4 system. While in Tampa, Tryon-Shoyinka recorded 138 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 35 quarterback hits, 15 sacks eight passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He started 45 of the 66 games he played with the Buccaneers.

With the Browns, Tryon-Shoyinka will bring depth on the edge in their 4-3 scheme. He joins a group of pass rushers that consists of former Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett as well as Ogbo Okoronkwo, Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire – who greatly improved with his opportunities during the 2024 season. Just before the negotiation period opened on March 10, Garrett signed a four-year contract extension that lasts through the 2030 season.

As a defense, the Browns are working to rebuild their dominance as a unit. In 2023, the Browns defense led the league in numerous categories, including total defense allowed with 270.2 yards per game. They also had the best passing defense in the league – allowing 164.7 yards per game – and led the NFL in third down percentage, with teams only converting 29.1 percent of third-down attempts.

However, in 2024, they were not able to play to the same level as in 2023, which played its factor in the 3-14 season. Now, as they look to bounce back from a down season and be a dominant defense once again under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Tryon-Shoyinka can play a role in taking that step forward.

The Browns agreed to terms with Edge Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, who has appeared in 66 games with 45 starts for the Buccaneers.
