The Browns added a veteran to strengthen both their return game and their receiving corps, as they have signed return specialist and WR DeAndre Carter to a one-year deal.
The eight-year veteran has bounced around to different teams over the course of his career. He has played for the Eagles (2018), Texans (2018-20), Bears (2020, 2024), Commanders (2021), Chargers (2022) and Raiders (2023).
He's played in 107 career games, with 21 starts as a receiver. Yet, over his career, he has mainly held the role of a returner. He is averaging 23.5 yards on 133 kickoff returns with a touchdown and 9.7 yards on 149 punt returns. He has also caught 117 passes for 1,331 yards and six touchdowns.
Carter spent the 2024 season with the Bears after he was signed during the 2024 offseason. He played 13 games for Chicago, recording nine receptions for 72 receiving yards. He also totaled 17 punt returns for 158 yards – averaging 9.3 yards – and 15 kickoff returns for 479 yards – averaging a career-high 31.9 yards that also ranked second in the league. Carter suffered a hamstring injury in Week 14 and was placed on injured reserve in Dec. 2024. He missed the final four games of the 2024 season.
Carter joins a return unit that struggled during the 2024 season, as the Browns ranked 30th in the league in kickoff return average at 24.8 yards and 11th in punt return average at 10.0 yards.
