The Cleveland Browns have signed DT Eli Ankou (pronounced el-EE ON-koo) to the active roster from Jacksonville's practice squad. In addition, the team signed LB Montrel Meander to the practice squad and released RB Elijah McGuire from the practice squad.
Ankou is 6-3, 325 pounds and in his third NFL season out of UCLA. Originally signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Ankou has appeared in 11 career games with the Jaguars. He has recorded 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He has spent all of the 2019 season on Jacksonville's practice squad. Ankou is a native of Orleans, Ontario, Canada.
No corresponding move is needed as C Austin Corbett was traded to the Rams last Tuesday.
Meander spent 12 weeks on the Browns practice squad last season and was with the team during part of the preseason this year. He previously played safety.
