Steelers What They're Saying Week 14

Just 17 days after the Browns defeated the Steelers in Week 12, the two AFC North foes will once again face off in Week 14.

After falling 24-19 in a snowy Thursday Night Football matchup to the Browns, the Steelers are motivated to earn a home win as they pursue finishing the season atop the AFC North standings.

"We're just happy that we get another opportunity," Steelers LB Elandon Roberts said. "They came out – hats off to them, man – they played a good game in our first outing out there and we get another opportunity to see them at Acrisure [Stadium] this Sunday."

Part of what fueled the Browns' success in Week 12 was a dominant performance from DE Myles Garrett, who sacked QB Russell Wilson three times in the first half.

Garrett, who is tied for the fourth-most sacks this season with 10, sacked Wilson on the opening drive to force a long field goal attempt, which K Chris Boswell missed. He also forced Wilson to fumble on a sack in the second quarter and sacked Wilson once more on the final play of the first half.

"He played a great game," Wilson said. "I think that he's one of the most talented guys in the National Football League. He's going to make his plays and the key for us is limiting him in how many plays he makes, but he's obviously a tremendous talent."

Wilson said that slowing down the Browns pass rush, which has the fourth-highest pressure rate this season at 38.5 percent, will be critical if the Steelers are to earn a win at home over the Browns.

"The biggest thing is that they're really talented on defense, they do a lot of great things. We've got to slow their front down and make plays," Wilson said. "I think this is going to be a great matchup and we're looking forward to the opportunity."

On the defensive side of the ball, the Steelers are preparing for a Browns offense that recorded over 550 yards on offense in their most recent game against the Broncos in Week 13.

QB Jameis Winston threw four touchdown passes and three interceptions against the Broncos and displayed his ability to make explosive plays with a 70-yard touchdown pass to WR Jerry Jeudy.

Against the Steelers, Winston threw for 219 yards and an interception. On the Browns' game-winning drive, Winston completed passes on fourth-and-3 and third-and-6 to keep the Browns moving towards the end zone.

"Most of the things he does from an IQ standpoint are very, very well-calculated," Steelers CB Donte Jackson said. "He's a gunslinger. He has a ton of confidence in his arm and that's just what it is. I love the way he gets out there and he competes, and he gives his guys a chance to go and make plays on the ball."

Jeudy caught passes on both third and fourth down conversion attempts on the Browns' Week 12 game-winning drive against the Steelers. The receiver has been a key weapon on the Browns offense, totaling 614 yards and two touchdowns since Winston took over as the starting quarterback in Week 8 against the Ravens.

With an ability to line up across the line of scrimmage and a deep route tree, Jeudy poses a threat to the Steelers secondary.

"Jeudy is a great player, a great receiver in this league," Jackson said. "A very talented guy, one of the best route runners that you'll see on a week-to-week basis. And I think Jameis really trusts him. He trusts that guy to get in and out of his breaks very precisely, very accurately and if he catches the ball with space, you expect him to make a lot of guys miss and go for a home run."

In addition to Jeudy, Winston has relied on TE David Njoku throughout his time as the starting quarterback. Only Jeudy has more targets than Njoku since Winston became the starter, and the eight-year veteran scored two touchdowns in the Browns' loss to the Broncos in Week 13.

"He's a splash play guy. He gets down the field in a lot of ways," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. "We have to be thoughtful about who we put on him and when. He's a big-time red zone threat. […] It shows up consistently, so it's something to be reckoned with, his talents and the way that they utilize his talents."
