Defensive prospect surfacing as mock choice for the Browns No. 2 pick

MockDraftRoundup3_2.14.25

With the Eagles named the Super Bowl 59 champions, the 2025 offseason is officially in full swing.

Now, all eyes around the league will turn to free agency and the draft, with the first stop along the way at the NFL Combine set for Feb. 27-March 2. The Browns hold the No. 2 overall pick, and nine total picks, in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Here's the latest roundup of mock drafts from different draft experts and analysts heading into the Combine.

The pick: Edge Abdul Carter, Penn State
Analysis: Yates writes that while he won't rule out Cam Ward and Sheduer Sanders at No. 2, he considered Carter's overall value as a prospect with this pick. "Carter was dominant in his first full season on the edge after sliding over from off-ball linebacker. He created pressure on 18.5 percent of his pass-rush reps this past season and finished with 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss; all three numbers were among the top seven in the nation."

The pick: WR/CB Travis Hunter, Colorado
Analysis: Reuter writes that he expects Hunter will focus on the offensive side of the ball at the next level because of his ball skills and athleticism. Yet, with his experience at corner, there leaves a possibility of lining up on the other side of the ball across from someone like CB Denzel Ward to face top receiving duos around the league.

The pick: Edge Abdul Carter, Penn State
Analysis: Renner writes Carter "might be the closest thing to the former No. 1 overall pick (Myles Garrett) to come out since." With his explosive first step and power, he is able to reach opposing quarterbacks with ease.

The pick: WR/CB Travis Hunter, Colorado
Analysis: Baumgardner writes the Browns have multiple areas on their roster that they need to address and believes the 2026 quarterback class is likely to be better at the top – which fuels the choice of Hunter at No. 2. Hunter's skill set, frame and IQ as a wide receiver helps him stand out, while his package at cornerback sets him apart from the rest.

The pick: Edge Abdul Carter, Penn State
Analysis: Frelund compared Carter's burst similar to what Garrett has shown throughout his NFL career. As a duo in Cleveland, it could take the Browns pass rush to another level.

The pick: Edge Abdul Carter, Penn State
Analysis: Dvorchak writes that while he considered a quarterback at No. 2 for the Browns, he described Cleveland's defense as one that took a step back in 2024. With Carter's 12 sacks and an FBS-high 24 tackles for loss in 2024, Carter could play a role in helping the Browns defense return to its dominance.
