Former Browns head coach Marty Schottenheimer is one of nine semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 in the coaching category.

Bill Arnsparger, Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Chuck Knox, Dan Reeves, George Seifert, Mike Shanahan and Clark Shaughnessy were also named semifinalists. The committee will discuss the semifinalists at length when it meets virtually Nov. 19 to select one finalist for the full Selection Committee to consider for possible election with the new class of enshrinees.

Schottenheimer reached this point in the selection process during 2023, when coaches and contributors competed in the same category.

Schottenheimer served as the head coach the Browns for five seasons, from 1984-1988. In that timeframe, the Browns had a 44-27 regular-season record, as well as six playoff games with a 2-4 record. Under Schottenheimer, the Browns won the AFC Central Division title three years in a row from 1985-87, as well as two trips to the AFC Championship game. The Browns also made the playoffs as a wild-card team in 1988.

Before Schottenheimer became the head coach, he previously served as the Browns defensive coordinator from 1980-1984 before he took over as interim head coach in 1984.

Over the course of his coaching career, Schottenheimer was the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989-1998, the Washington Redskins in 2001 and the San Diego Chargers from 2002-06. He has an overall NFL coaching record of 205-139-1 in 21 seasons.
