Following a successful first start at the helm of the Browns offense, where QB Jameis Winston led the Browns to a 29-24 victory over the Ravens, he was officially nominated for the FedEx Air Player of Week 8.
Winston completed 27 of 41 passes for 334 passing yards and three touchdowns and finished with a rating of 115.23 in his first start in two years. Sunday marked his 29th career 300-yard passing game, as well as his first game with at least three touchdown passes since totaling five on Sept. 12, 2021.
Among the 39 quarterbacks who have started for the Browns since the team's return in 1999, Winston's 334 passing yards were the most in a player's first start with the team.
Winston is also the first Browns player to be nominated for the award this season.
Beginning this season, the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards is updating its eligibility. Now, wide receivers, tight ends, quarterbacks and running backs are eligible to be recognized as the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week. Players will no longer be restricted to solely winning the Air or Ground Awards. Beginning this season, fans can vote during each week of the regular season for the two players from a group of six who displayed the best offensive performance.
Other players nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards for Week 8 include Falcons QB Kirk Cousins, Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, Bills RB James Cook, Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs and 49ers TE George Kittle.
Weekly winners will be selected by fans, who have the chance to vote here.
For the 2024-25 season, FedEx is working with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to make donations of $2,000 in the names of the two winning players ($4,000 total) to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country every week.
Over the course of the season, select HBCUs will receive grants totaling more than $100,000 to support needs-based scholarships through the 2024-2025 school year. Over the past three seasons, FedEx has donated more than $300,000 to directly support needs-based scholarships for HBCU students. In total, the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards program has donated nearly 3 million dollars to various non-profits, charities, hospitals, and other humanitarian organizations.
The FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony in New Orleans during the week of Super Bowl LIX.
