BEREA, Ohio – The Browns are set for an eventful February dedicated to honoring Black History Month. The team's commitment to develop and advance opportunities through their #BeTheSolution platform as part of Browns Give Back, will be accompanied by programming aimed to foster unity and support within Northeast Ohio.
Below are some impactful activations that will be hosted by the team throughout the month of February:
Cleveland Huddle
The club will revive the "Cleveland Huddle" program, for the fifth year in a row, which was created to champion Black-owned restaurants in Cleveland. The program gives Browns fans, staff, coaches and players a chance to further support the restaurants the team highlights during the month. Each of the four restaurants selected (CMB Soul Food; Sweet Pork Wilsons; The Roaming Biscuit; and The Vegan Doughnut Company) will be onsite at Browns community events throughout the month to distribute meals. In addition, KG’s Homebaked Goodness LLC, will provide a variety of desserts options for Browns staff to enjoy. Since the program's inception, a positive impact for 15 different businesses in Cleveland has been made. Each business represented will receive a custom jersey.
Cleveland Huddle Pathway
For the second consecutive year, the Browns will host the "Cleveland Huddle Pathway" in conjunction with the team's Stay in The Game! Attendance Network to inspire future changemakers. High school juniors and seniors from Garfield Heights City Schools will tour CrossCountry Mortgage Campus, participate in a panel moderated by News 5 sports reporter Camryn Justice with Browns' staff to learn about their professional journeys and insights into current challenges in the industry. To conclude, students will receive lunch from one of the Cleveland Huddle restaurants, Sweet Pork Wilsons.
Stay in The Game! Student Interview
A student-athlete from one of the Stay in The Game! Attendance Network districts will spend time at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus for a sit-down interview with a Browns professional to learn about their career journey in the NFL. The student will also tour CrossCountry Mortgage Campus and join them for lunch.
Marion Motley Scholarship
The Cleveland Browns Foundation, in partnership with College Now Greater Cleveland, is now accepting applications for the Marion Motley Scholarship, a $10,000 scholarship awarded to two Northeast Ohio students each year. The Marion Motley Scholarship honors former Browns fullback and linebacker Marion Motley, who overcame many obstacles to break ground as one of the first African American players in the NFL and played with the Browns from 1946-53. Since the scholarship was established, 90% of recipients have graduated or are on track to graduate college. The Marion Motley Scholarship application can be found at: collegenowgc.org/FIND-SCHOLARSHIPS.
Throughout the month, the Browns' social media accounts will amplify the club's Black History Month efforts by highlighting the late-great Jim Brown, the Marion Motley Scholarship, the Bill Willis Coaching Fellowship, the #BeTheSolution platform, and more.
