"We are so excited to kick off our fifth Girls High School Flag Football season and officially welcome Greg Newsome II as our first-ever ambassador," said Haslam Sports Group Vice President of Community Relations, Jenner Tekancic. "This season will feature new ways to enhance competition and highlight the amazing athletes throughout Northeast Ohio. As the sport continues to grow across the globe, we are committed to expanding our program across the state and ensuring every girl has the opportunity to play the sport."
"I am so honored to become the first ambassador for the Browns Girls High School Flag Football program," said Browns CB Greg Newsome II. "Growing up with three sisters and welcoming my own daughter this fall, supporting women's sports is something I have always been passionate about and seeing young women get the chance to thrive on the football field is incredible. This is more than just a sport - the impact the game has on shaping confidence, leadership and resilience is limitless. I'm committed to supporting the Browns organization in their work to break barriers and create more opportunities for girls to play the sport and the push to make flag football a sanctioned sport in Ohio."
To kick off the season, the Browns will also host a variety of clinics for athletes, coaches and officials to compete in and learn more about the game, including the second annual 'A New Era Summit' to connect young female athletes with potential career opportunities in sports. New this season, the Browns will highlight one high school game in Northeast Ohio to be featured as the Browns Girls Flag Football Game of the Week throughout the 2025 season.
The Browns Girls High School Flag Football programming, presented by Gatorade and in association with Bridgestone, aims to provide access and opportunities for high school female student-athletes to compete in and experience flag football. They provide resources and information to players, coaches and parents to expand their knowledge of the game, as well as opportunities through the Browns, USA Football, NFL FLAG and the NFL.
In 2021, alongside Northeast Ohio Flag Football, the Browns began the implementation of their Girls High School Flag Football program throughout the region and have since created the first Girls High School Flag Football division in Ohio. Over the past four seasons, the number of Northeast Ohio high schools with teams has grown from two to 51 with 24 new high schools committed to play in the Spring 2025 season. Ultimately, the goal is to create a pathway for Girls High School Flag Football to become a sanctioned varsity sport under the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
