Browns hold no interest in trading Myles Garrett

Garrett released a statement in February to request a trade

INDIANAPOLIS – Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager reiterated he wants DE Myles Garrett to stay in Cleveland.

As Berry began his press conference at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Berry spoke about their interest to keep Garrett with the Browns, and no desire to trade the six-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year.

"Myles, as you guys have all heard me say, he's a huge part of our organization," Berry said. "Really good person. He's an awesome player. Understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed. We can't imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns. [...] We're not interested in moving him."

On Feb. 3, Garrett released a statement in which he requested a trade from the Browns. After a disappointing 2024 season, in which Cleveland finished 3-14, Garrett expressed his desire to win.

Throughout his eight years in Cleveland, Garrett has had a high level of individual success and been one of the top edge rushes in the league. He broke both franchise and NFL records in 2024, as he finished the season with the second-most sacks in the NFL with 14 and became the first player in NFL history to reach 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons. His 102.5 career sacks are also the most by a Brown all time.

He broke records in consecutive weeks during the 2024 season, as Garrett surpassed 100 career sacks in Week 16 and became the 45^th player to do so in NFL history since 1982. Garrett also is the first player since 1982 to have 100 career sacks prior to his 29th birthday. Garrett turned 29 on Dec. 29.

From being named a six-time Pro Bowler to winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and nominated for 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett has had a decorated career with the Browns. Yet, in his statement, Garrett expressed his desire to win a Super Bowl during his career.

Berry shared the organization was aware of the possibility of the request because of the conversations they had with Garret and his camp. He believes that while they are aligned on the frustrations of the 2024 season and aspirations to win, where they can have a difference in opinion comes in the approach it takes to reach that level of success and the decisions that come with transitioning forward.

Berry understands Garrett's ambition of holding the Vince Lombardi trophy, but also reiterated the Browns are committed to building a successful team and returning to winning in 2025.

"I understand the frustration. We've had plenty of dialogue, but ultimately my responsibility is to make the decisions that are best for the Browns and having Myles as a part of the organization is a huge piece of that," Berry said. "We've had plenty of dialogue throughout the season and after the season ended, certainly with both him and his camp, both before and after the trade request. And again, our interest is in keeping Myles in Cleveland."
