Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward has been named the NFL Rookie of the Week.
Ward took home the honor Friday after a brilliant regular-season NFL debut in which he made two interceptions and three pass breakups in Sunday's 21-21 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I do get amazed just watching him play, not the interceptions but just him throwing his body around in there trying to tackle and making tackles," head coach Hue Jackson said. "He doesn't shy away from anything. He's very even-keeled when you talk to him. He doesn't get too down. He doesn't get too high. He did a really good job last week. He has to play better again this week, and here's another opportunity for him to get better."
Ward, the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft, beat out Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes and Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay.
Ward and the Browns play the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday.
