In the week eight High School Game of the Week presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) matchup, the Padua Franciscan Bruins will host the Archbishop Hoban Knights. The three-time defending state champions Archbishop Hoban are looking to repeat again this year. Hoban's 7-0 record has already given them a playoff berth, but Hoban faces another challenge this week in the 5-2 Bruins at Padua Stadium.
Archbishop Hoban has been steamrolling its competition since the season started. Their season opener was the closest an opponent came to defeating Hoban when they upended St. Ignatius 21-14. Since then their margin of victory has been an average of 31.8 points a game. One key to their success has been their junior running back Deamonte Trayanum. Trayanum has already received multiple Division-I offers from colleges such as Ohio State University and the University of Notre Dame. Trayanum's production on the field has been a difference maker all season. Last week, Trayanum was able to run the ball for 90 yards and three touchdowns off four carries alone. He also added a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the contest.
The Bruins playoff hopes are still alive as they sit at 5-2 on the season. Padua will need to buckle down defensively and produce offensively if they want to beat the Knights this week. The Bruins will look to their senior linebacker/running back Crishawn Long to lead them to victory. Long has proven to be a versatile player for the Bruins. He plays both sides of the ball as well as kick return for Padua. His athleticism and pure talent for the game led him to receiving a scholarship offer from Purdue University. Now he will face his toughest opponent yet as the lights shine brightly at Padua Stadium this Friday.
In 2017, Archbishop Hoban defeated Padua Franciscan 49-10.
Good luck to both teams and stay tuned for a post-game report.
