The Browns selected QB Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Here are five things to know about Cleveland's newest quarterback addition.

He is a polished passer

Sanders maintained a solid completion percentage and excelled at limiting turnovers during every season of his college career. He left Colorado with a 70.1 percent completion percentage, 134 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, and his 74.1% completion percentage in 2024 led all FBS pass throwers.

He's done well before in fresh beginnings

Sanders has made an immediate impact at new levels of his career his whole life, dating back to his freshman year at Trinity Christian High School in Texas. With his father, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders, as the offensive coordinator when he led his school to a 12-1 finish and a Division II Championship.

In college, Sanders discovered instant success at Jackson State as a freshman after he became the named the highest-ranked recruit in school history. Jackson State won the SWAC Championship in both his first and second seasons, which led him to another new start at Colorado for his final two years of college.

With the Buffaloes, Sanders earned Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year honors after completing 69 percent of his passes for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

Take a look back at Shedeur Sanders' football career from his days in college to becoming the Cleveland Browns' 2025 first-round draft pick.

He'll be in a thick QB competition

Sanders was the fourth quarterback the Browns have added to the QB room this offseason and the second rookie, joining Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in Cleveland' 2025 draft class. The Browns will have a competition this offseason to find out who will be the Week 1 starter among Sanders and Gabriel as well as Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, who were each added in free agency.

He celebrated his draft call with a splash

Sanders' wait in the draft concluded with a phone call from Browns Executive Vice President and General Manager Andrew Berry—as well as a dip into the pool.

Several moments after Sanders' call have gone viral, including his splashy celebration.

The Browns are confident he can outperform his draft position

Sanders entered the draft with some of the best grades of all quarterback prospects and was widely expected to land as a Round 1 or Round 2 pick. Berry saw an opportunity to grab Sanders' talents at an extreme discount when he was still on the board in Round 5, so he traded the Browns' remaining Day 3 picks with the Seahawks to land Sanders at No. 144 overall.

"We felt like he was a good, solid prospect at the most important position," Berry said. "We felt like it got to a point where he was probably mispriced relative to the draft. Really, the acquisition cost was pretty light, and it's a guy that we think can outproduce his draft slot."

Not many Round 5 quarterbacks have the opportunity Sanders does in the Browns QB room, but regardless of when he takes his first snaps under center, Cleveland feels confident it got a good deal with Sanders on Day 3.
