· Lyvonia "Stump" Mitchell played running back in the NFL for 10 seasons and has coached in the NFL for 20 seasons.
· Under Mitchell, five different backs — Ricky Watters (1999-00), Shaun Alexander (2001-05), Clinton Portis (2008), David Johnson (2016) and Nick Chubb (2019-21) — gained 1,000 rushing yards in a season, while Andre Ellington produced 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of his first two NFL seasons (2013-14) and Kareem Hunt topped 1,000 scrimmage yards in 2020.
· Helped his backs find the end zone as Alexander (five times), Johnson (twice) and Chubb (twice) produced 10 or more scrimmage touchdowns in a season multiple times. Alexander set an NFL record with 28 scores in 2005 and Johnson led the league with 20 in 2016.
· In addition to numerous running backs, Mitchell has also helped two fullbacks earn Pro Bowl selections in Mack Strong and Mike Sellers.
· The Browns led the NFL in rushing average in 2021 with a 5.09 mark, the highest average by a Browns team since 1966. Chubb finished second in the league in rushing yards en route to a third consecutive Pro Bowl selection and being named a finalist for the FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Year. Chubb also became just the sixth player in NFL history to rush for at least 950 yards and record at least eight rushing touchdowns in each of his first four seasons.
· Helped the Browns to one of the most prolific RB tandems in 2020 with Chubb (1,067 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns) and Hunt (1,144 scrimmage yards and 11 total touchdowns). The pair were only NFL teammates to each record at least 840 rushing yards in 2020, highlighted in a win against Houston on Nov. 15, where Chubb (126) and Hunt (104) became the first Browns to each record 100 yards rushing in the same game since 1966. Chubb finished the year second in yards per carry among NFL RBs (5.6) and tied for fourth with 12 rushing TDs, despite missing four games due to injury and earned his second Pro Bowl selection. Hunt scored 11 regular season touchdowns, led the Browns with five receiving scores and recorded three rushing touchdowns during the postseason. The Browns run game finished 2020 third in NFL in rush yards (2,374) as the team recorded four games with at least 200 rushing yards, their most in a season since 1978.
· Helped Chubb record one of the best seasons in Browns history in 2019. Chubb finished second in the NFL with 1,494 rushing yards, the fourth most by a Brown in a season, while accounting for 1,772 scrimmage yards, the fifth most by a Brown. Chubb registered seven 100-yard rushing games in 2019, the most by a Brown since 1968 and was voted a starter in his first career Pro Bowl.
· A ninth-round selection in the 1981 NFL Draft, played nine years with the Cardinals (1981-89) and one season with the Chiefs (1991). Ranked in the top three in Cardinals history in rushing yards (second), rushing average (second), kickoff return yards (second) and punt return yards (third).
· Off the field, earned recognition as the Chuck Drulis Award winner for community service in 1982 and as the team's Byron "Whizzer" White Humanitarian Award finalist in 1984 for his work in the community.
· four-year player and three-year starter at running back for The Citadel, set school records for rushing yards in a season and for a career. As a senior in 1980, he finished with the second-most rushing yards in the country and was named an All-American, Southern Conference Player of the Year and South Carolina Amateur Athlete of the Year.
