• Mike Pettine says the positions that are still up for grabs are wide receiver, inside linebacker, safety and some spots for which younger defensive linemen are competing. But for Pettine and the Browns, there is no magic formula in terms of who makes it.
• "I think there is a number [at each position] you have to carry, but I don't want to get locked into just a cookie cutter, 'these are the exact numbers we have to have,'" said Pettine. "We're just going to start at the top of the depth chart and work from there."
• Browns fans didn't even have to go and review the tape to know this: Johnny Manziel played his best game as a pro against the Rams.
• "I felt like I threw it with a lot more confidence," said Manziel. "I felt like I took a step forward. That's what I needed to do – keep getting better, keep growing as a quarterback and play better than I did last week."
• A hot topic in Washington is the safety of quarterback Robert Griffin III and how his slides are awkward – sometimes even putting him in more danger. Don't expect that to be an issue for Manziel once he does play in regular season games.
• "I've played baseball for all those years," said Manziel. "I just feel like it's pretty natural. It's just like stealing second base. Just get down and slide and get up and get onto the next play."
• Manziel said that while Saints quarterback Drew Brees isn't a focus of the film room, the Browns have shown the rookie and the other quarterbacks things the All-Pro player does well. A few in the national media have said Manziel has shown signs on his good plays in the preseason that look similar to Brees.  
• "There are certain cut-ups that we go through throughout our quarterback room that are Drew Brees," said Manziel. "They're extremely impressive, obviously for a guy of his size, to play consistently as well as he does year after year."
• Pettine said undrafted free agent fullback Ray Agnew is still fighting hard for a roster spot, and it's possible the team keeps both him and MarQueis Gray.

Jordan Cameron returned to practice and everything is good to go with the Pro Bowl tight end. * DL Desmond Bryant (wrist), DB Pierre Desir (knee), DB Joe Haden (foot), LB Eric Martin (concussion), DB Buster Skrine (thumb) and DB Isaiah Trufant (knee) all sat out of practice. Haden will not play against the Bears, but should return to practice next week in preparation for the Steelers.
