Myles Garrett and J.J. Watt might exchange pre- and post-game pleasantries Sunday but Garrett made it clear Friday he is in awe of no one.
Watt's significance to Garrett is simple: Garrett still hasn't passed him on the sack leaderboard.
"He is ahead of me (on the list of sacks leaders this season), so that is a motivator," said Garrett, who has 10 sacks on the season compared to Watt's 11.5. "Other than that, not really. I know that he is a great player but I play with great players every week."
That's not to say Garrett doesn't respect Watt, the perennial All-Pro Texans defensive lineman. Garrett studies Watt's game and acknowledged that Watt can do everything you want out of a defensive end. He called Watt "one of the best linemen of this decade" on Friday.
But in his next breath…
"He has to prove it every week just like everybody else," Garrett said.
-- Gregg Williams may have some playful blackmail material on John Dorsey.
Williams has lived through many iterations of football, including Dorsey's playing days with the Packers beginning in 1984. Apparently, Williams held onto a few keepsakes over the years.
"I have some creative pictures," Williams said. "Some pictures that he cannot run away from, I have those. Just let me know any time that you need them. Make sure that he hears this because I know that he is a little bit nervous about some of the pictures that I have."
-- Browns special teams coordinator Amos Jones isn't worried about Britton Colquitt's lack of reps.
It sounds weird to say considering Colquitt leads the league in punts, but he's had a much easier workload over the past two weeks, punting just four times each game.
Colquitt's dealt with this issue before; he played for the Broncos the year Peyton Manning broke the touchdown pass record. He said it's hard to punt productively when you aren't playing much. Should Jones be worried?
"Boy, boy no," Jones said with a laugh. "I like it when (Colquitt) does not have to even go out there other than hold. We lead the league in number of attempts, and that is always something you do not want to lead. It gives you more opportunities, but that is not really what the punt team is looking for."
The punt team is, however, looking for a change to the stat sheet.
Colquitt is approaching the franchise record for punts inside the 20 with 30 through 11 games. Considering how much punters have improved over the years, Jones thinks the stat has lost its luster.
"I think that the statistic needs to be changed to [inside] the 10," Jones said. "The punters themselves have created that ability to (punt the ball inside the 20) with a high rate. We seek inside of the 10."
-- Rookie offensive lineman Austin Corbett (foot) will not play in Sunday's game against the Texans.
Defensive back Damarious Randall (hamstring) and center JC Tretter (ankle) are both listed as questionable but have both played through injuries recently.
