SAN DIEGO -- Two of the largest Browns Backers groups across the country came together Saturday night to rally the Dawg Pound for today's game against the Chargers.
Ultimately, it was hundreds of Browns fans who gathered to meet with Browns alumni, eat good food and engage in "Here we go Brownies!" chants.
"When you have hardcore Browns fans and they go to one away game a year, and San Diego pops on the map, this is where they're going to come," said Mike Zarconi, President of the San Diego Browns Backers. It was Zarconi's group and the Southern California Browns Backers who joined together for the event at the Town and Country Resort.
It's expected even more Browns fans will be in the Qualcomm Stadium stands today when the Browns and Chargers kick off at 4:05 p.m.
Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner, who will be honored together at the Browns' Oct. 18 game against the Denver Broncos at FirstEnergy Stadium, made the rounds and made new friends at the event. A spectacle like Saturday's was nothing new for Byner, who is never surprised by the Browns fans' reach across the country.
"The Browns fans have been the most supportive of me in my career," Byner said. "To be able to connect not just as a player, but really connect with the community and the fans is really special."
