Hue Jackson press conference - 10/13

On OL Joe Thomas' status:
"My left tackle is fine. He is good."

On if Thomas did anything today:
"Yeah, he stretched and made sure he felt better and feel good and getting himself ready to go but did not practice, if that is what you are asking. No, he did not [practice]."

On Thomas not yet missing a snap in his NFL career heading into Sunday's game:
"And he won't. He won't. He won't miss a down. No question in my mind about that."

On if the Browns know who will start at QB:
"(QB) Cody (Kessler) practiced full and looked good. I think he is ready to go."

On if QB Josh McCown would be the No. 2 QB:
"I don't know that, but I know Cody is ready to play."

On Cody will be limited in any way due to the injury:
"No, I think he is fine."

On if McCown will be available Sunday:
"I don't know that yet."

On if QB Kevin Hogan will be the No. 2 QB in the event McCown is not available:
"A combination of whatever we need to do if he is not."

On what Kessler has shown to be ready, given he was in pain Sunday:
"Right, he was. Credit to him, our trainers. They have done a good job getting him back out there and going. As you know, he has not missed a day of practice so that is good. That is a good thing."

On Kessler's progress from to week to week:
"I just think he is getting better. He is understanding our system, how to play within our system, where to deliver the ball to. I He has started to play in a rhythm that runs our offense and a rhythm that works for him. That is what we have to do is, whoever is playing quarterback, make sure we get them in rhythm where they can play and function and play good. He has done a good job, obviously, but still so early in the season and have a long way to go."

On if Kessler's return is encouraging and an opportunity to continue a rhythm after the Browns responded to the Patriots' first TD prior to his injury:
"I think so. I think that is what he wants to do. That is what we want to do on offense is go back to that drive we had before he got hurt and play in that kind of rhythm and that fashion. Yeah, that is the goal."

On if Kessler has lived up to expectations so far:
"It is still early, but I think he is doing some good things. He is getting better. Obviously, the more these young guys play, the better they will get. He has done some things well, but he has to continue to grow."

On the Browns OL on Sunday, given injuries like OL Joel Bitonio and Cameron Erving:
"Cam is ready to go. Cam is there and obviously (OL John) Greco and (OL) Alvin Bailey and (OL Jonathan) Cooper. We will know more by the end of the week, but I feel good about the guys who are going to walk out there first. I do feel good about the starting line."

On if the Browns moved OL John Greco back to RG:
"Yes, I have."

On if there is an update on QB Robert Griffin III's status:
"No. No sir, there is nothing new at this point."

On what stands out about the Titans DL:
"(Laughter) No. 99 (Titans DL Jurrell Casey), No. 98 (Titans OLB Brian Orakpo), they are good, and No. 91 (Titans OLB Derrick Morgan), they are good players. They are really good players, play hard and I think Casey is playing as good as anybody in the league right now. He just is. He is a dominant football player, and Orakpo is proven. The guy has six sacks so that tells you they know how to get to the quarterback."

On Titans QB Marcus Mariota:
"Good young quarterback that is evolving each and every week. He can make all the throws. He is very talented with his legs. I think he is finding his rhythm in playing. They have good runners that he can turn and hand it to and a good offensive line. He is playing good. Just don't want him to play good this Sunday."

On the Browns punt return production this season:
"I would like to make more plays. I would like to have the ball come back at the opponent a little bit more, a little further, run for a touchdown, all those good things. (Special teams coordinator) Coach (Chris) Tabor has done a good job. He has been mixing and matching the whole year. We don't have a lot of the corps guys that are right there, but he has done an admirable job of getting these guys every week up to speed. Inserting (RB) Duke (Johnson Jr.) back there surely has helped a little bit, adding some excitement to that team."

On considering defensive coordinators during the hiring process other than Ray Horton, who left the Titans to join the Browns:
"Oh, there was a ton of people, yeah."

On what he liked about Horton to hire him:
"Ray has been in this division. I have competed against Ray when I was at another team within this division a couple of times, and I know playing against his defense has been tough. They always got after the quarterback and covered well and did some good things. There is no question Ray is the right guy for this job and for this opportunity. We just have to continue to get better."

On Horton's familiarity with Titans defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau:
"Obviously, Dick LeBeau is one of the best coordinators in this league, but we face good coordinators every week. There is a whole bunch of them in this league, and that is what they do. Dick LeBeau is as good as there is and he has those guys playing well. We have a big challenge again this weekend."
