The Cleveland Browns will kickoff their training camp on Saturday July 26th, at the team facility in Berea.
There will be hospitality tents, food and beverages and a kids area. Just like last year's training camp, the fans will be brought closer to the field for a more intimate setting.
But training camp will be different this year, says team president Alec Scheiner. The enthusiasm about the Browns is higher than most fans have ever seen.
"People are really starting to get excited about this team," said Scheiner about the biggest difference in 2014's training camp. "It's the one time in the NFL you can get really close to players and kind of feel what the game is all about. Training camp is really all about the fans."
To streamline the expected increase in camp attendance, the organization has set up an online registration system that fans are highly encouraged to use – www.ClevelandBrowns.com/BrownsCamp14. The website will also provide daily updates, including weather, appearances and additional information for each practice. The same online system was used for the Browns' Draft Day party in May.
Additionally, the Browns will host Family Day on Saturday August 2nd, in Akron, at InfoCision Stadium. The team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage before interacting with the fans. The renovations at FirstEnergy Stadium will still be wrapping up and Scheiner said the team wanted to reward Akron for their longtime loyal support of the Browns.
"The Browns fans in Akron have been great to us," said Scheiner. "The University of Akron has also been great to work with. It was easy to reach an agreement to play there."
During his other NFL stops, head coach Mike Pettine has seen success when training camp is held away from the home city. The Browns have already started looking towards the future, although the franchise is comfortable in using their home-base in Berea.
"We're going to look at all options," said Scheiner. "That doesn't mean were going to rule out staying here. We'll keep looking to see if there is a place that works really well for our team. If there is, then we'll consider it."
