QB Jameis Winston threw three interceptions in the Browns' loss

Browns Chargers Postgame Recap Week 9

The Browns lost 27-10 to the Chargers on Sunday, bringing their record to 2-7 after the Week 9 loss.

The offense struggled to move the ball, gaining just 58 yards in the first half and putting together one field goal drive.

Winston finished with 235 yards, one passing touchdown and three interceptions. His passing touchdown came on the Browns' final offensive drive of the game after they were down three scores.

Meanwhile, the Chargers offense exploded in the first half, with over 250 yards of offense and three touchdowns, including a 66-yard completion to WR Quentin Johnston in the second quarter.

While the defense played well at times throughout the game, sacking QB Justin Herbert six times, they allowed several big plays that proved the difference in the game.

Key moments

Chargers' explosive first half proves too much to overcome

The Chargers' 20 points in the first half were fueled by explosive plays. Herbert had five passing plays that went for over 20 yards and RB J.K. Dobbins had two runs for 10 or more yards.

After allowing a 53-yard punt return to start the Chargers second drive, the Browns defense held its own before penalties and blown assignments resulted in a Chargers halftime lead.

The defense held the Chargers to third-and-12, but DE Ogbo Okoronkwo committed a neutral zone infraction and the Chargers picked up a first down on the following play. The Browns once again forced the Chargers into a long third down after DT Shelby Harris sacked Herbert, but on third-and-20, WR Josh Palmer found himself uncovered in the end zone for an uncontested touchdown.

DE Myles Garrett put together a monster first half with three sacks. However, after Garrett and the Browns defense held the Chargers to a third-and-6, the secondary once again missed an assignment and WR Quentin Johnson caught a pass from Herbert and ran 66 yards untouched to the end zone to build the Chargers' lead.

On the Chargers' third scoring drive of the half, Herbert completed three passes for 45 yards before Dobbins ran 16 yards for a touchdown.

Browns offense stifled in first half, struggles with turnovers in the second

Of the Browns' six drives in the first half, five ended in punts. Their lone scoring drive resulted in a 38-yard field goal from K Dustin Hopkins.

The Browns averaged just over 2 yards per play in the first half, as they struggled to move the ball downfield.

The offense looked cleaner in the second half, but turnovers prevented the Browns from finding the end zone.

On the Browns' first drive of the second half, Winston went 4-for-5 passing for 51 yards before throwing an interception in the end zone. Winston tried to loft the pass to WR Jerry Jeudy in the corner of the end zone, but CB Tarheeb Still tipped it to DB Elijah Molden who came down with the interception.

Two drives later, Winston threw a deep ball intended for WR Elijah Moore, but it was intercepted by S Alohi Gilman. On their following drive, the Browns turned the ball over on downs as the Chargers defense continued to stifle the Browns offense.

Continuing the negative trend of turning the ball over, Winston threw his third interception of the day on a short pass intended for Moore in the fourth quarter. On the following drive, the Browns offensive and special teams woes persisted as Hopkins' 51-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

With 44 seconds remaining, Winston threw his first and only touchdown pass of the day on a 17-yard pass to WR Cedric Tillman. The play was initially ruled incomplete, but replay showed that the second-year receiver got both feet in bounds and the ruling was overturned.

Myles Garrett puts on defensive showcase with three sacks

After going four consecutive games without a sack, Garrett was dominant on Sunday against the Chargers, recording three sacks in the first half.

Garrett's first sack of the day came with 1:45 left in the first quarter. His second came just two plays later as Garrett beat LT Rashawn Slater on the outside and brought down Herbert.

Garrett's back-to-back big plays helped give the Browns their best field position of the game so far, sparking their first scoring drive of the game.

On the Chargers' following drive, Garrett notched his third sack in four plays.

Garrett finished with four tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 16 yards.
