Cleveland Browns Legends Class of 2017
DB Bernie Parrish (1959-66) –As a first-team All-American second baseman and football star at the University of Florida, Parrish was selected in the ninth round (108th overall) of the 1958 NFL Draft. Following a short stint with the Cincinnati Reds, Parrish stepped in as the starting left cornerback for the Browns in 1959. Over the next seven seasons, he would miss just one game, making the Pro Bowl in 1960 and 1963, and earning first-team all-conference and second-team all-NFL honors in 1964. Parrish totaled 29 interceptions with the Browns, returning them for an average of 19.2 yards and three TDs. He helped the Browns win their last championship, the 27-0 win over the Baltimore Colts on Dec. 27, 1964 at Cleveland Stadium. In addition to his on-field success, Parrish also served as the Browns' representative for the National Football League Players Association and eventually was named the Vice President of the NFLPA.
LB/FB Tony Adamle (1947-51, 1954) –A World War II Veteran and Ohio State Buckeye, Adamle joined the Cleveland Browns in 1947, one year after the franchise began play in the All-America Football Conference. Under Paul Brown, Adamle flourished as both a linebacker and fullback, carrying the ball 57 times for 247 yards and two TDs and was selected to the Pro Bowl as a linebacker in both 1950 and 1951. During his six seasons with the Browns, Adamle contributed to six championship appearances and five titles (AAFC, 1947-49; NFL, 1950, 1954). Following the 1951 season, Adamle paused his football career to attend medical school; however, he returned to the Browns in 1954 and helped lead Cleveland to yet another championship. Adamle ultimately retired following the 1954 season and worked as a doctor in Northeast Ohio for more than 35 years.
