The Browns on Saturday selected Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez in the seventh round with the 224th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Gonzalez is the ninth Brown selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, joining first-rounders DE Myles Garrett, S Jabrill Peppers and TE David Njoku, second-rounder QB DeShone Kizer, third-round pick DT Larry Ogunjobi, fourth-round DB Howard Wilson, fifth-round OL Roderick Johnson and sixth-round DT Caleb Brantley.
Gonzalez, a first-team All-American selection, won the 2016 Lou Groza Award, given to the nation's top collegiate kicker, after connecting on all but two of his 25 field goal attempts. He made 14 kicks from at least 40 yards, a total that led the nation, and was 7-of-9 from 50+ yards. His longest kick came from 59 yards.
As a junior, Gonzalez ranked second in college football with 26 field goals made. He was 22-of-27 as a sophomore and 25-of-30 as a freshman. According to NFL.com, 75 percent of Gonzalez's kickoffs have gone for touchbacks over the past two seasons.
