Browns gearing up for first West Coast trip of the season

The Browns went 0-3 on the West Coast last season

Browns Travel to Raiders Week 4

The Browns departed Cleveland on Friday afternoon as they travel to Las Vegas looking for their second win of the season. The team practiced in the early afternoon at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus before heading to Las Vegas.

While the Browns have gotten off to a good start on the road, winning their only road game of the season so far against the Jaguars, the team struggled to produce on the West Coast last season.

"I think last year was a big wake up call for a lot of guys and we plan to execute much better," DE Myles Garrett said of the team's struggles out west.

The Browns lost to the Seahawks, Broncos and Rams in their three West Coast games last year. In the week between the Broncos and Rams games, the team stayed in Los Angeles rather than coming back to Ohio.

Garrett said that two of the hardest parts of traveling out west were adjusting to the time difference and keeping the same discipline practiced before home games.

"Being out of your home, you're away from your comfortable environment where you're used to everything being right there," Garrett said. "You're making a call, whether you need an IV before the game or you need to get a certain food or shake or something in the morning, something you can rely on. All those things are a little bit foreign when you go somewhere else, especially the West Coast, which is so different from where we are. So, you just have to be able to plan ahead and prepare for those kinds of trips."

The Browns typically leave for Sunday away games on Saturday, but are leaving Friday to "get acclimated," according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

WR Amari Cooper began his career on the West Coast, spending his first four years in the NFL with the then-Oakland Raiders. Cooper said that the Raiders' travel process mirrored what the Browns are doing this week.

"One of the things I did when I was with the Raiders was, we also left for the games two days early," Cooper said. "And so that was kind of what I was used to, it was my introduction to the league. And that really helps the body. The human body gets acclimated, it adapts fast, but I'm not sure that one day is enough. So those two days, it kind of helps you get adjusted to the time, being able to sleep for a night and then another night."
