2020 NFL Draft

Browns draft Oklahoma State DE Emmanuel Ogbah

The Browns kickstarted the 2016 NFL Draft's second round Friday by selecting Oklahoma State defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah with the No. 32 pick.

"As we set out this offseason and talked about some of the goals that we had for our organization, other than landing this man (Hue Jackson) and some dynamic playmakers on offense, being able to find an edge rusher in the draft was high on our list of priorities," Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said. "For our board, Emmanuel is our best player. We had a first-round grade on him so we were hopeful and really pleased leaving last night that he sat there waiting on us."

The pick was the Browns' second of 12 picks in the 2016 NFL Draft. Ogbah joins Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman (No. 15 overall) as the newest Brown.

"I will play whatever position the Cleveland Browns want me to play," Ogbah said. "I will rush standing up. I will rush with my hands on the ground. Whatever they want me to do, I will do it."

Ogbah, a three-year starter at Oklahoma State, amassed 133 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss and 26.5 sacks. In his junior and final season with the Cowboys, the 6-foot-4, 273-pound prospect notched career-highs of 17.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks.

Ogbah was an All-Big 12 selection in 2014 and impressed at the combine with his athleticism, runnning a 4.67-second 40-yard dash.

"We want to impact our team with more speed and with more playmaking ability, and I think we all recognize in order to do that in the National Football League you can do it a couple of ways," Jackson said. "One is with power and the other one is with speed. We were able to get two players thus far that have both."

Ogbah was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to the United States when he was 9 years old. A soccer and basketball player in his early years, Ogbah picked up football as a seventh grader.

"When I was younger, I used to watch a lot of (Pro Football Hall of Fame and former NY Giants DL) Michael Strahan, and I kind of modeled my game after him," Ogbah said. "He was a relentless pass rusher with speed and power, and those are the combos I usually use when I pass rush."

Browns legend Paul Warfield announced the pick.

Cleveland holds three more picks tonight in the third round (Nos. 65, 76 and 77).
