The Browns selected Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright in the seventh round with their final pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Wright, who amassed a total of 270 tackles, 43.5 tackles for loss and 17 sacks in three seasons with the Wildcats, has been described by NFL.com as a "one-man wrecking crew" before a torn lateral meniscus ended cut his final year at Arizona short after three games.
In 2014, however, Wright dominated the college football landscape, totaling 164 tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. For his efforts that season, he was named a consensus All-American and honored with the Bronco Nagurski Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Vince Lombardi Award and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
As a freshman, Wright — a native of Windsor, California — burst immediately onto the scene with 83 tackles, 9.5 for loss, and an interception.
Wright (No. 250) is the 14th player to be selected by the Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft. He joins Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman (No. 15), Oklahoma State defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (No. 32), Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib (No. 65), Auburn offensive tackle Shon Coleman (No. 76) and USC quarterback Cody Kessler (No. 93), Wisconsin linebacker Joe Schobert (No. 99), Auburn wide receiver Ricardo Louis (No. 114), TCU defensive back Derrick Kindred (No. 129), Princeton tight end Seth DeValve (No. 138), UCLA wide receiver Jordan Payton (No. 154), Baylor offensive tackle Spencer Drango (No. 168), Colorado State wide receiver Rashard Higgins (No. 172) and Louisiana-Monroe defensive back Trey Caldwell (No. 173) as the newest Brown.
The Browns acquired the No. 250 pick in a trade with the Dolphins that included Miami defensive back Jamar Taylor coming to Cleveland. The Browns were originally slotted to pick at No. 223 in the seventh round.
