BEREA, Ohio – The Cleveland Browns on Thursday named Morocco Brown vice president of player personnel. General Manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.
"The Browns are better today because we've added an exceptional evaluator of talent," Farmer said. "In Morocco, we're getting a tireless worker who is clearly ready for this role, as he's had multiple GM interviews. I like that he's a former player that knows the culture of a locker room, and I like that he knows how to grow talent at the NFL level.
"This is a young, vibrant thinker, a detail-oriented, direct communicator who isn't restricted to operating under antiquated methods. He'll not only achieve his personal goals, but also will help improve our group and our system. Most importantly, he understands the daily fight, what we need to accomplish in order to identify and acquire the players we need to bring championships to Cleveland."
Brown joins the team after spending the past six seasons (2008-13) as the director of pro personnel for Washington. With the Redskins, he was responsible for coordinating the advance scouting of opponents, participated in all draft meetings and evaluated all professional leagues for potential free agents and trade prospects.
Brown was instrumental in the signing of a number of players, including receiver Pierre Garcon, who led the NFL in receptions in 2013.
Prior to re-joining the Redskins, Brown spent the previous seven seasons (2001-07) as assistant director of pro personnel with Chicago. During that tenure, he directed the scouting of upcoming AFC opponents and the Arena Football League for the Bears.
During his tenure in Chicago, the Bears made the club's first Super Bowl appearance since 1985.
Brown spent the 2000 season and 2001 offseason as an assistant scout with Washington. In that role, Brown prepared weekly scouting reports, evaluated NFL prospects and managed free agent and draft prospect visits.
Brown originally entered the NFL as a scouting intern with the Indianapolis Colts in the spring of 2000.
A 1999 graduate of North Carolina State, where he played against Farmer and his Duke Blue Devils, Brown lettered all four years in football and served as team captain his senior season. Brown led the Wolfpack in tackles for three straight seasons and was twice named honorable mention All-ACC. He earned a bachelor's degree in parks, recreation and tourism, with a concentration in program/sports management.
A native of Hampton, Va., Brown attended Kecoughtan High School. Brown's brother, Milan, is the head men's basketball coach at Holy Cross.
