5 things to know about new Browns DB Damarious Randall

Five things to now about Browns defensive back Demarious Randall...

  1. Randall joins the Browns after three seasons with the Packers in which he was arguably Green Bay's most consistent defensive back. In 30 starts at cornerback, he made 10 interceptions, 32 pass breakups and 144 tackles.
  1. Randall was Green Bay's first-round pick in 2015 and immediately had an impact. He played in 15 games, including nine starts, and made 59 tackles, three interceptions (the second-most among NFL rookies) and a team-high 16 pass breakups.
  1. Randall joins a defensive secondary that struggled to take away the ball last season. The Browns finished last in takeaways (13) and second-to-last in interceptions (7). Randall, who played safety in college, should help remedy that problem.
  1. Despite playing corner in Green Bay, a move to safety, if it's in the cards, wouldn't be new for Randall. He played the position at Arizona State for two seasons, totaling 177 tackles, six interceptions and 12 pass breakups. Before that, he played football for Mesa Community College and baseball for Butler Community College.
  1. Randall, who turns 26 in August, gives the Browns another relatively young player in the secondary. He'll join a defensive backs group that includes 2017 first-round pick Jabrill Peppers, 2016 fourth-round pick Derrick Kindred, 2017 fourth-rounder Howard Wilson and third-year defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun.
